Trade Deadline Target: Colby Armstrong

On the surface this might look like an odd player to target.  Recently Armstrong has been benched in Toronto, but the man who "invented hockey", Ron Wilson, or so he thinks makes odd moves all the time.  Armstrong would be a great addition to the Oilers 3rd line; he could bring a gritty nasty game with the occasional big middle of the ice hit.

Currently Armstrong is in the 2nd year of a three year 9 million dollar contract.  The price is a little high, but you will pay a little for players who have his unique skill set.  Moving forward he would have to take a pay cut at the end of his contract, but for now he could provide a solid 3rd line checking role with the capability to add 10-20 goals and 25-40 points.

The Oilers need to be harder to play against, on every line, defensive pairing, and in every situation.  Armstrong would help the Oilers in this effort to be a difficult team to play against.

Over his career Armstrong has only had one season under 10% in shooting percentage.  His career average is 12.9%.  Armstrong has average a little over 11 minutes this season, 10:24 at evens strength.  This is down from his 16:07 TOI last season in 50 games (1:51 SH. 0:36 PP).  IN 2009-10, he averaged 14:47 TOI (2:05 SH, 0:38 PP).  Four seasons ago in Atlanta he averaged 15:09 TOI (0:50 SH, 1:47 PP).

Armstrong still has a lot of game left, he a physical somewhat skilled power forward type who is also versatile in the role he can play.
